Job Profiles

Francine Keenan - Benefits Manager

"I have worked for Burnley Borough Council for 18 years, all of the time has been within the Revenues & Benefits Service. I started as a temporary assistant in the days when Poll Tax was introduced back in 1990 and I was encouraged to become part of the Benefits Team. The biggest part of my job is keeping focussed on delivering improvements and understanding the needs of our customers and working with colleagues in other departments in order to deliver the Council's aims. I have enjoyed every aspect of my career with Burnley Council and it's a privilege to do my job and to make a difference. Burnley Council is a great place to work and I'm honoured to represent it."

Steve Richards - Senior Park Ranger

"I have worked for Burnley Borough Council for thirty one years and almost all of that time as a Park Ranger within Greenspaces and Amenities. If someone said "here is another thirty years, what would you like to do?" My answer would be, "let me do it all again." Burnley Council have been an excellent company to work for with excellent working conditions.

I have enjoyed working with all the public of Burnley, Padiham and the surrounding areas within the Borough and also all the visitors to the Borough from as far away as Australia.

I have always found other departments within the Council to be helpful and over the years I have made many friends. At times it has been challenging but at the same time it has been rewarding. Here's to another thirty?"

Kathryn Harrison - Customer Services Agent

"I started working for Burnley Borough Council as a Customer Service Advisor in 2005 after leaving University. Currently, my main duties are to provide help and advice to members of the public in relation to the Councils Revenues and Benefits services. I enjoy my job as I come into contact with a diverse range of people and problems, which provides variety to my work. Additionally my job is often rewarding, as essentially my role is to help people when they find themselves in financial difficulties.

I also enjoy my job as I work within a supportive team based environment and we are in the process of bringing different services within the department, for example the St Peters' Leisure membership applications. This provides further variety and also encourages personal development for example by promoting my knowledge of different computer systems and of other service unit procedures and roles."

Fleur Vickery - Performance Improvement Officer

"I applied for a job with Burnley Borough Council back in December 2003 - it was a job share in a similar field that I'd been working in the private sector, in debt recovery.

The main reasons I wanted to work for the Council is that I'd heard about the family friendly policies, the flexible working and the training and development opportunities. I'm still here 5 years down the road, I'm now working full time in a Performance Management Role and its all true!!

I have been on an incredible learning and development journey over the past 5 years and Burnley Council has played a big part in that journey. I love coming to work everyday and because they are flexible with any issues arising around my children - offering things like flexi time and home-working - that means I am always able to give 100% when I'm here!

Amy Blackburn - Public Relations Assistant

"I came to work for Burnley Council in June 2006 on a temporary part-time basis. I got the job originally to cover maternity leave but enjoyed working in this department so when a job came up I applied and was successful.

I enjoy working here because there are a lot of opportunities and every day is different. It's great knowing that the work we do on a day to day basis goes towards improving the town for its residents and future generations, and I enjoy being a part of that.

There are so many challenges in the job and in the organisation and this makes it a very exciting place to work. You are encouraged to work hard and develop yourself, which is great for a graduate like myself.

I'd encourage anyone to come and work here!"
