Regeneration

Burnley - The Challenge

The opportunity to bring lasting change has never been better.

New secondary schools, a new university campus, major football stadium improvements, town centre retail developments and redevelopment of mills, are supporting the development of new homes and adding up to almost a billion pound of regeneration that is bringing new life to the heart of Burnley.

  • Burnley Council is leading on Elevate, one of the Government's nine housing market renewal pathfinders, in the borough and is working with support from English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation, housing associations and two major developers to transform three inner urban priority areas.
  • The Government's Building Schools for the Future programme is replacing all existing secondary schools.
  • The Northwest Development Agency is supporting the development of East Lancashire's first university campus and associated enterprise park.
  • A Town Centre Masterplan has been completed, with exciting major developments such as the 'Oval' shopping development and the Weavers' Triangle redevelopment taking shape.
