The Lancaster District is located in the North West region of England. It is north of the main conurbations of Manchester and Liverpool, and close to the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks.
The district is a vibrant mix of city, coast and countryside, comprising the historic city of Lancaster, the resort of Morecambe, the port and residential area of Heysham and extensive rural areas including the market town of Carnforth. Morecambe Bay is recognised for its international importance for birds and parts of the District are included in the two AONBs.
With a population of around 143,500, the district is one of the fastest growing areas in Lancashire and an increasingly popular location in which to live and work.
Over the centuries the area has been at the heart of national and international trade and is still the home of famous manufacturers and major exporters
