West Lancashire is the perfect place for families to spend time exploring and relaxing. The Ormskirk Town Trail provides an opportunity to wander at leisure through the picturesque town, taking in the clock tower and the old coaching house along the way.

The West Lancashire Light Railway offering rides on a historic steam locomotive is open between Easter and October on Sundays and Bank Holidays. For those who enjoy outdoor sporting activities, the Leisure Lakes at Mere Brow near Tarleton provide a venue for windsurfing, mountain biking canoeing, jet skiing and golf. There are over 90 acres of marine and picnic parks with a variety of stimulating walks on offer.

In addition West Lancashire can boast Martin Mere Wildfowl Trust, Farmer Ted's and Windmill Animal Farm, which will keep children of all ages enthralled for hours. Beacon Country Park offers a comprehensive Ranger Service, walks through extensive woodland/picnic areas and an 18-hole golf course.

Ormskirk's Chapel Gallery provides a large exhibition space and is host to a lively exhibition programme of high quality artwork. Theatre enthusiasts are well catered for at the Rose Theatre, part of the Edge Hill university campus.

For the energetic, there are 2 swimming pools, Park Pool in Ormskirk and Nye Bevan Pool in Skelmersdale and Burscough Sports Centre.
